When I visited the places and sacred lands of Native people, I felt something awaken within me. I began to believe that I had found myself as a teenage Red Indian girl, seeing the world through her eyes. I asked myself, what would I write if I were like her, living close to nature, carrying the wisdom of the earth? With that thought, I drew this picture and wrote the poem as a way of honoring her voice, her spirit, and the timeless connection between land, identity, and belonging.
